Earl Biss was a dreamer and he cultivated dreams. His paintings relive the days of Indian Glory. His paintings fantasize the days of roaming the prairies, stealing horses, hunting buffalo, and leading war parties. Biss was the last of a Crow warrior bloodline.

His paintings are his children of immortality. He was often quoted as saying "painting is my shot at being here forever." Biss was meant to be an artist as his style was to paint fast without taking the time to think. The work is responsive and just flows from this magical feeling that takes over when his art is happening.

His paintings clearly display his faith in another power. Biss grew up on the Yakima Reservation in Washington State and later joined his mother and her Crow tribe. The elders in the tribe gave him the name "Spotted Horse" and Biss became absorbed in the campfire fables of the Dream People. You will find the spotted horse in most of Biss's magical art.
